One of the most apparent examples of diversity in America and the American workplace is the variety of personal names, reflecting Americans' diverse origins. However, many of these names do not follow the same pattern as those of American or European origin. Understanding other cultures' naming practices is important so that one's colleagues and clients are not offended or misnamed, but rather feel welcomed and respected. In this article, naming practices in East Asia, Latin America, and the Arab world are discussed at length.
