The author argues for the importance of developing an intercultural communication framework for corporations that form global partnerships. The author notes that in order to be competitive in today's marketplace, corporations must extend their reach globally; however, many mergers and acquisitions fail because cultural differences are overlooked. It is important, then, to understand both how culture impacts the merger process and to manage cultural differences well post-merger. If each individual in an organization is trained and equipped with the skills to understand and operate effectively across both national and organizational cultural differences, this will give the overall organization an unparalleled competitive advantage in the global marketplace.
