The intersections between international development and intercultural communication have traditionally been underdeveloped, yet a potential nexus between the two fields could enhance the abilities of practitioners of both fields. Effective intercultural communication can help development practitioners to understand how to create a program which is culturally appropriate and has the best chances for successful implementation. By understanding the Iceberg Model of Cultures, development practitioners can fashion an effort that is congruent with a society's values and beliefs while building effective interpersonal and trust relationships.
