Despite the international makeup and importance of United Nations peacekeeping forces, time constraints and weak methodologies hamper the effectiveness of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations' training program for peacekeeping forces. One aspect of this program involves cultural awareness training, in order to familiarize peacekeepers with various concepts of culture and preparing them to work in a multicultural environment. The program also attempts to address specific situations the peacekeepers may find themselves in, as well as examples of cultural differences. However, the training program is very short for the material involved, and is often culture-general rather than culture-specific, which hinders the program's overall impact.
