This session will invite participants to consider the factors relevant to leadership and followership: cultural values, work values, organizational types, political influences and the enabling environment of a given world context. Participants will first assess and share their own knowledge of and experience with leadership theory and practice. Historical and current trends will be reviewed and the intersection of leadership, management and cultural values will be explored, with special reference to recent work done by Geert Hofstede and the GLOBE Project (Robert House et. Al.).
The collective findings of the session participants will then help frame a discussion about how leadership training is delivered in the North American context, and how/whether it is useful to professionals from other cultures.
